Dance

Laughing and Dancing for Life

Soul Movement has had yet another rebirth and return back into the community here in Jersey.

After nearly 3 years of tending to my beautiful new daughter, I realised it was time to come back and begin our dances again. We began our evening with 45 minutes of strange guffawing, cackling and gibberish.  Johann Liffey and I held the space for our lovely crew and everyone seemed to really get into the slight insanity that is laughter yoga!

We wound down with a sweet heart meditation and relaxation and a few more people joined us for our dance. Did I say dance? Actually we completely raved it up and sweated our tears, prayers and intentions on this new moon time. Amazing to see all the familiar faces back again.

I felt nervous coming back to this space holding role again after such a long time out, but actually it was gorgeous to be back in such good company again. I felt blessed to be able to hold this space for others which actually really grounds me and gives me a sweet outlet for service and creativity that feels a bit like home for me in some ways. Dance is a magical portal into emerging our wonderful potential as well as bringing with it deep healing. For me, there is no greater tool that connects us to the fullness of life and who we are. This tool takes us into the edge and beyond of our comfort zone. That place where restraints dissolve and transformations take place.

Looking forward so much to our next gathering in month: Sistermoon – A Dance and Gathering Just for Women which will be a deep journey and enquiry into the loss of the feminine in our world and the emerging rebirth that is rising up through the earth and through our hearts and bones. Come and dance with us dear women.

Love Maria

SISTERMOON – Full Moon Dance and Gathering for Women

FULL MOON GATHERING FOR WOMEN

Friday 27th July

“The Gifts of Ancestors”

Join our beautiful sacred space to dance, share and love together at full moon time. Each gathering we focus on a different theme to help us heal and rise the feminine energy. This month we dance with our ancestors and the gifts they bring us.
Our upcoming Sun in Leo and Full Moon in Aquarius Lunar Eclipse moon is ripe with potential for us to create transformation in our lives and the world around us. They give us the opportunity to create sacred space and consciously integrate shadow aspects and inner and outer challenges. We will use the energy to acknowledge the deep well of support we have behind us and the journey our ancestors took to bring us where we are today. We’ll give this attention and care to whatever is arising or feeling unintegrated in our lives and prepare ourselves for the next chapter.

What could happen if us women gave ourselves the time and energy to dive in and explore our power and possibilities in a sacred supportive space?

Our gatherings have been a sweet respite for us women in our busy and patriarchal modern world. Dance is a magical portal to ride us into our journey into healing and rising our feminine as it fully supports our feminine nature and unfolding healing processes. In the realm of conscious dance with the intention of love and integration, transformation happens.

This isn’t a place where we’ll be impressing each other with our dance moves. We will drop in deeply to our bodies and our space will support authentic healing movement and our own unfolding creative expression.
We also use some yummy essential oils to support and nurture us, and nibble on delicious raw chocolate!
Date: Friday 27th July
Venue: The Bridge Centre, St Saviour, Jersey
Facilitator: Maria Barnicoat
Time: 7.00 -9.15pm (please arrive at least 10min before)

Sistermoon – April’s Full Moon Womens Dance

16 april 2014Ladies we are coming together again to honour the divine feminine and her many sacred aspects <3

Our women’s only dances are a very special time to really allow ourselves to feel the force of the feminine in our bodies.  She is healing, transforming, accepting, powerful, open, sensual, playful and courageous and as women of the 21 Century in a world dominated by the masculine energy, we are so ready to let her come into her full expression and power again.  Too long we have hidden her.  This is a bonding space for sister energy – where the judgments and fears of the past can be transformed into peace and harmony.

We will particularly honour the Libran Full Moon energy of harmony, balance and beauty.

Bring your blankets, some water and wear something and/or bring something for the altar that represents the divine feminine in you. Wear comfy layers you can move around in.

If you have not been before, come and dive in with us into this dance  … you will be held perfectly.

So excited to see you all and journey together!

Cost £10 or £8 for concessions.
Facilitated by Maria

Intimacy, Innocence and Connection – A 5Rhythms Weekend with Tim Broughton

postertimdanceweekendWe are so very lucky to be able to have Tim over for another gorgeous weekend of dance and journeying within.

One of the deepest fears we have as men and women is to allow ourselves to feel safe enough to let go into being touched physically and emotionally. It is also what many of us long for with our friends and our partners.  This
workshop is designed to guide you, through dance, to a place of trust and innocence, and an experience of profoundly touching and loving intimacy.

Sometimes we are deeply touched simply by looking into another’s eyes and allowing them to look into ours. There is no prescription; it is different for all of us and as wide as the ocean. Come dance, and experience the gifts of intimacy, innocence & connection.

What are the 5Rhythms?

The 5 Rhythms comprise a simple movement practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body, no matter what shape, size, age, limitations and experience. To find your dance is to find yourself, at your most fluid and
creative level. While the practice itself is the essence of simplicity, it has the power to catalyse deep healing and creative expression. The primary teaching of this work is: if you put the body in motion the psyche will heal itself.

The rhythms are the foundation of Gabrielle Roth’s work, a series of healing maps for the body, heart, mind, soul and spirit that provide a lifetime of self discovery and a path to awakening.

About Tim Broughton

Tim has worked with individuals and groups in a variety of contexts formany years, is a counsellor and accredited 5Rhythms teacher.  He trained with Gabrielle Roth in 1994 and 1997/8. He  regularly runs day, weekend and longer residential workshops.  His wish for all of us is to find the
courage to live with all the love, passion, vulnerability, intensity and celebration that is our birth right.  See www.opentolife.co.uk.

Opening into Rhythm

jan 2014

“Everything in the universe has rhythm. Everything dances.” – Maya Angelou

One of the most wonderful gifts we can give ourselves this year is to choose to live a life of full expression, heart connection and truth.  Opening ourselves up to rhythm, the rhythm that is always present in ourselves and all of life brings us into a deeper and more fulfilling relationship to ourselves and the world around us. ‘Opening into Rhythm in 2014’ is a Soul Movement Dance Class for everyone.  Our dance space is a sacred place to discover your inner dancer if you’ve not yet met them, and a place to reignite and reconnect again and again to your power and strength.

Soul Movement classes are totally free-form movement /dance classes inspired by music and facilitation from the teacher, allowing our bodies to move freely without judgment or concern ‘for the “grace” or beauty of the dance.  It’s an inner/outer journey of moving meditation, letting your body, heart and soul be your inner guide.  There is much evidence to suggest that dance is an intrinsic part of a healthy community and has been practised since the beginning of time as a way to connect deeper into our potential and the fabric of the magical beings that we are.  New dancers and seasoned dancers from everywhere are invited to join this community.

Maria started these classes after being greatly inspired by Movement Medicine, 5Rhythms and Soul Motion.  Come and see what your inner dancer can offer you.

PLEASE NOTE: This is the last Soul Movement Dance Class to be facilitated by Maria until March!

• Please bring a water bottle, blanket for times of lying stillness and relaxation.
• Dress in easy to move in layers.
• Please arrive through the top entrance in tower road where there is a carpark.
• Cost £10 or £8 for concessions.
• Doors open and music will begin playing at 6:15 for any early arrivals.

Facilitation begins from 6:30pm and is held by Maria.

Igniting the Body and Soul through Dance! A Weekend of Dancing the 5Rhythms with Tim Broughton in Jersey

butterfly woman pic

I am still very much in the warm afterglow of a gorgeous weekend of 5Rhythms here in Jersey.

We began on Friday, with around 30 of us.  It was a strong and exciting start to the weekend which gave us a foundation in how to move to the 5Rhythms (Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness).  Most of the dancers had never danced this practice before, created by Gabrielle Roth around 30 years ago.  It was amazing how quickly we found these rhythms and over the weekend, dived deep into each one to experience the mystery that is at the core of each one.  Together these rhythms make up life! Think of a storm, a lifetime, an eruption and you will find each of these rhythms inside these and countless other mysteries of nature. Gabrielle called the 5Rhythms, ‘The Wave’. When we become attuned to this Wave, we can begin to know ourselves on a very profound level. A level much deeper than the thinking mind can fathom.

Whilst discovering the Wave, we also experienced what it is to be out of our heads and grounded in our bodies.  Each and every dancer was able to experience the peacefulness that comes through this practice of dance; this inner peace which many of us find so hard to feel in this day and age.   Each dance journey is different, but there is something so special for me in dancing a deep journey with my fellow jersey dancing family on this lovely island we live on.  I never fail to be blown away but how beautiful each person becomes when the have lost their heads and found their inner dancer. Also when we stir and shake the body, we really hear the wisdom, the communication that the body is telling us moment by moment.  Sometimes this involves old unprocessed experiences which need to be felt fully to be healed.  Feeling it and moving any old stuff through the dance really sets us free from the blocks we had perhaps been living with for years or a lifetime.  By the end of the weekend a bunch of random strangers turned into a family of open hearts totally connected and supportive of each others own inner healing processes and journeys.

Are we humans or are we dancers? My wish is that everyone can experience the freedom and potential of fully connecting with their bodies and losing their heads for a while.  I have not yet found a better way for doing this and for experiencing joy and inner truth than through the magic of dancing the body alongside a community of other amazing body’s on their quest to become more open and alive.

If you want to move your body and open more to life then come to a Soul Movement Dance Class in Jersey!

Womens Full Moon Dance

Full Moon

“Once upon a time, in the sacred societies and temples of the ancient world, women were respected and revered as the living embodiment of their divine role model, the Great Goddess. Their bodies were seen as sacred alchemical vessels of creation and transformation, as radiant temples of Divinity filled with the vital healing and transformative current of light and energy that ceaselessly pours outward from the Primordial Source of all life. Deeply in tune with the inner world of spirit and the outer forces of nature, women were known as the Keepers of the Sacred Mysteries.” Sharron Rose

At this magical time of the month, at the full moon, we will join together to dance our truth and dare to reconnect fully with our divine feminine which is so often squashed down in our modern times.  This essence of us is when we are at our most intuitive, at our most creative, at our most loving, nurturing and accepting of all we are.

No experience with this kind of dance is necessary.  Come in whatever physical condition you are in. It is facilitated in a beautiful candlelit hall.  Your body and soul will be inspired by music, suggestions, deep states of induced relaxation and a moving connection to your home, your centre.

• Bring your intentions/prayers/wishes for this full moon • Please bring a water bottle, blanket for times of lying stillness and relaxation. • Dress in easy to move in layers. • Please arrive through the top entrance in tower road where there is a carpark. • Cost £10 or £8 for concessions. • Doors open and music will begin playing at 6:15 for any early arrivals.

Facilitation begins from 6:30pm by Maria.

“It begins with a heartbeat, a breath, a quickening. Out of the still, silent waters of the mystic ocean of eternity, a tiny droplet of light slowly emerges, like the full moon reflected on the water. The doors of your perception swing open and your senses reach out like shining beams of moonlight to embrace the infinite rhythms and expressions of creation. As you relax into the expansive beauty of this universal dance, soothing waves of celestial grace surround and caress you in a never-ending stream of warmth and tenderness. Your heart opens as you feel the gentle touch of the Divine Mother, the supreme light and energy of Divinity, nurturing and enlivening the clear luminous flame of your own immortal spirit.” Sharron Rose, Awakening the Divine Feminine.

Soulful Movement

Movement encourages transformation, relaxes the body, frees up stuck energy and stuck energetic patterns and energises the body.  Friday’s dance session was filled with authentic movement and was a fusion of amazing beings finding their feet, kicking out old energy and peeling back the layers of the daily armour to reach the soft rich potential of human nature in its truest and most childlike form.  We had a small childlike being with us with her mother which was a new experience for our group.  I sensed a curiosity in myself in what this would bring to us and after a gentle and seemingly comfortable experience for her and the group, I was left with a calm excitement at the prospect of having more little beings in our space, gifting us with their innocence and openness.  I do ask that if anyone would like to bring a little being that they stay really conscious of our soul movement dance etiquette in respecting the space with no distracting verbal communication and awareness of the other dancers at all time.  Its so good to be back! We’ll be dancing again Friday 11th October.  I hope you can join us!
