I’m excited to announce that I am now using infrared technology alongside bodywork treatments and organic facials!
What is this all about??
Infrared Heat
Thermal infrared heat rays are the same type of heat the sun emits. Infrared light, which is invisible, can be felt as warmth entering your body. The rays increase the surface temperature of the body and activate positive cellular changes. The light energy changes to thermal heat energy and promotes healing and a feeling of well-being.
Research and Development
Infrared light developed from LED technology made for the NASA space shuttle. The invention was originally designed for researching plant growth in space. In research studies, doctors at Milwaukee’s Medical College in Wisconsin discovered the light has the power to heal wounds and is beneficial in cancer treatment.
Therapeutic Benefits
Thermal heat dilates, or expands, blood vessels and increases blood circulation. This, in turn, helps facilitate the healing process. Infrared heat therapy aids in promoting greater tissue flexibility, reduces inflammation and decreases joint pain. This type of therapy is beneficial for many ailments including, arthritis, back pain, Fibromyalgia and tendinitis. Light therapy has also been shown to generate vitamin D in the body.
Movement encourages transformation, relaxes the body, frees up stuck energy and stuck energetic patterns and energises the body. Friday’s dance session was filled with authentic movement and was a fusion of amazing beings finding their feet, kicking out old energy and peeling back the layers of the daily armour to reach the soft rich potential of human nature in its truest and most childlike form. We had a small childlike being with us with her mother which was a new experience for our group. I sensed a curiosity in myself in what this would bring to us and after a gentle and seemingly comfortable experience for her and the group, I was left with a calm excitement at the prospect of having more little beings in our space, gifting us with their innocence and openness. I do ask that if anyone would like to bring a little being that they stay really conscious of our soul movement dance etiquette in respecting the space with no distracting verbal communication and awareness of the other dancers at all time. Its so good to be back! We’ll be dancing again Friday 11th October. I hope you can join us!

Dancing is healing, free-ing, releasing, fun, opening and softening. Its a great practice for returning back to our bodies and for putting our modern day overactive mind back in its proper perspective. When we dance we give ourselves permission to express our hearts desires, our longings, our loves, our frustrations, our needs, our heartaches, our expansiveness … and, with practice, we can bring that metaphor into our daily lives to serve us on our path to more freedom and more openness in all of our lives. It opens up the closed petals of tension to reveal our truer natures.
Dancing makes us kinder – because it makes us more aware of our own emotions. You cannot fool the body because the body knows, and is already holding everything which we have not processed; the suffering we did not fully realise, the hurt we did not allow ourselves to truly feel, the anger that we internalised … and so on …. and so once we move ourselves and begin to feel the whirl of experience that we carry, we naturally begin to cultivate a sense of empathy and compassion for ourselves which we can consciously (or unconsciously – it will naturally evolve that way) extend out to others.
This leads to dancing being a great connector of people – even those of us who have always felt we didn’t fit in (well, my hand is up!) there is always a place on the dance floor for us. When we move our bodies instinctively, our hearts begin to express their truth with ease. No-one’s dance is the same – amongst the beauty in the individuality of movement, there is a pulsating union, and we cannot fail to see that we are all from the same family! There is a communication that happens to easily and readily without words – it is truly a relief to simplify the language of the moment into movement and have our hearts more readily accessible to us.
Once we honour our hearts with our expression, we have moved a bit further down the path of freedom.
Last nights return to our bare feet dance classes was a lovely evening!! It was such a great turn out! Fantastic to see so many people in the hall, and so good to be back in a community of movers and groovers again!
Soul Movement Classes are fun, nurturing, connecting and liberating. They are a fusion of meditations and relaxations on a dance and movement journey back to our centres. Next Class is on Friday 6th September and held by Maria Barnicoat at First Tower School. Times: 6:30pm (doors open and music starts at 6:15) til 8:15pm. Bring water, a blanket and wear comfy layers.
I’m very excited to announce that our dance classes are back … and with a new name and new hall.
Once a month, on a Friday at 6:30-8:15pm, at First Tower School, St Helier, Jersey, you are invited to Soul Movement. For those that came to the Bare Feet Dance Classes – this is the same class, same facilitator but with a fresh name and peacock emblem to inspire openess, integrity and the beauty we can achieve when we endeavor to show our true colours.
This monthly movement class is a free-form movement /dance inspired by music, allowing our bodies to move freely without judgment or concern ‘for the “grace” or beauty of the dance. It’s an inner/outer journey of moving meditation and develops a direct body-mind-spirit connection, letting your body and inner guide be your teachers and healers.
In this dance, we learn to cultivate presence with our own energy and, upon discovering our own dance within, we use the movement that comes and the energetic experience to release stuck patterns in our body, emotions, mind and spirit.
This is an empowering practice. When we learn to really trust our body and the wisdom that moves through the LIFE in our bodies – not just in this class but in all aspects of our life – we see that all of life is a dance and we become empowered to live from a place of truth and soul integrity.
No dance experience or partner is necessary. It’s a perfect outlet for those who think they “can’t dance” and for experienced dancers alike. It is free-form, not a structured dance. It is also not a social dance. It is an environment without observers or conversation, where you can feel safe to try new things and push your comfort zone. It is facilitated with invitations from myself to explore movement with specific areas of the body and to explore larger themes as a whole through your movement. Much of the time it is an open dance floor for you to explore different rhythms, patterns of movement and your inner journey.
There is much evidence to suggest that creative movement and dance is a key ingredient in a happy, healthy and fulfilled life. These classes are extremely encouraging, non-judgmental, well facilitated and the soft and subdued environment supports each individual. All walks of life are welcomed, and whilst there is no religious aspect connected to the dance, they do support our spiritual journey in life, whatever inclination or beliefs that we may each sway to.
We feel stuck, depressed, held back, and frustrated when our energy is not flowing freely, SOUL MOVEMENT unlocks these restrictions and opens us up to the possibilities of discovering and allowing our true creative, joyful nature to emerge.
The classes are facilitated by Maria Barnicoat, and long term SOUL MOVERS often proclaim that these sessions have proved life changing for them. I invite you to try this exciting form of movement for yourself and see why dance has been an intrinsic part of our expression since time began.
“We dance to unite all of our senses into a healing art
We dance to create community, joy and strength and to let go of tension
and unease through our bodies
We dance to empower ourselves and the great web of life
Come and dance with us”
Classes cost £10 or £8 for concessions. If you cannot afford this class but want to come, please contact Maria.
I know we need a certain amount of the paper money to pay our rents/mortgages etc but over the last couple of years I’ve massively enjoyed swapping skills with others, usually time for time instead of money. It really works for me, but there’s one thing that you have to overcome – you have to be willing to ask the other person you are approaching if they’d be up for swapping energy rather than money. They might say no but who cares, at least you tried and if they say yes then its a great feeling. It works better with individuals rather than huge business empires and is also a great way to connect with another creatively. There’s a feel good factor that comes from knowing you can get by without relying always on money.
I’ve swapped treatments for treatment, treatments for carpentry work, raw chocolate for software, astrology chart readings for treatments. The things I swap are all connected to my work but they don’t have to be. I’ve probably swapped much more too that I can’t think of now. Its a great habit to get into especially in these weird economically changing times.
If you use facebook – a local group JiT Skill Swap is a great thing to join. Once you state your skills to the group, you get added to the ‘Swapping Doc’ that anyone in the group can access.
Don’t be shy, be proud of your skills, let yourself shine and share them out
In a few weeks I’ll be resuming a dance class that I have held for the best part of 4 years here. I’m very excited. And I can confirm that it will be in the location where I gave the first ever class – First Tower School! It will be held once monthly on a Friday from 6:30-8:15. I have had so many people ask me when I’ll be starting again, so its amazing to be able to tell people that it’ll be really soon.
In the meantime, I’m looking for a new name. Bare Feet Dance Community wants to be called something a little simpler and with a name that encapsulates what my classes are all about. I’ve had so many amazing names posted on facebook for me, I’m not sure how on earth I’ll decide. Thank you so much for all your ideas! I’ll let you know very soon what the decision is.
If you’ve never been to an ecstatic dance class such as 5Rhythms, Movement Medicine nor Bare Feet dance classes before, you’re in for a treat. This is strictly non-structured and inevitably life and joy enhancing! See Ecstatic Dance Classes for more info and watch this space for details on the first class. Peace n love to all x
As I was eating a heart-shaped piece of Kali-Ma yesterday …
I was filled with a gratitude for something that tastes so so good also being so beneficial. Eating it made me happy! I then thought it would be good to remind myself WHY WHY WHY is raw chocolate the way to go and why is it better than mass produced ordinary chocolate. The chocolate we usually eat is roasted – neutered of its nutritional powers. Raw chocolate is nutritionally “intact”. One chemical found in abundance in raw chocolate is tryptophan, a neurotransmitter which creates serotonin, the feel-good chemical that courses through our blood. We think of serotonin as being a brain chemical, but 80% is produced in the gut. Raw cacao is the number one food-based antioxidant – much higher than blueberries or strawberries (oxidation is what naturally happens to cells, and over time this wears out your body, and contributes to disease. There is strong evidence that consuming anti-oxidants helps to control this.) Dark chocolate has gotten a lot of attention as a “health” food in past years, but raw dark chocolate is in another league.
And did I mention how delicious it is?? It is rich but retains a creamy sweetness that makes it unique. Kali-Ma is sweetened with Coconut Palm Nectar and contains no dairy products. It is indeed vegan, raw and organic. You can find it in The Chocolate Shop in Conway Street, in Health Essentials in New Street, in Curiosity Coffee Shop and in Bay Stores in First Tower.
Bags start at around £4.50 and boxes are around £11.50. Click here for more information on Kali-Ma.
